At about 9:30 pm on Saturday 22nd February 2020, a pandemonium struck in the form of a yellow flame from the departmental office block of Law Faculty. Both students and some security personnel, rushed down to the scene with the quest to try to put off the fire, but all efforts amounted to nothing as the fire increasingly grown into uncontrollable volume and razed down the Office of the Commercial and Property Law Department.
However, Shell Nigeria was immediately contacted for assistance and their Fire Service was deployed to the scene. Their swift intervention reduced further damages caused by the fire disaster.
According to our respondent, Esaigun Akpobome Frank, a 300Level student of Law, said that the good thing is that no lives were lost, but office materials, such as student files and even script for a particular course exam that was written on Thursday 20th of February 2020, was alleged to have been razed by the fire”.
Right now the student community is in shock and traumatize even as they prepare for their remaining exams, he added.
As at the time of gathering this information, the exact cause of the fire is still largely unknown, meanwhile, it was alleged that it was due to electrical malfunctions at the Department of Commercial and Property Law.
