EA To Gov. Okowa Urges Deltans to Report COVID-19 Systems Early Enough to Save Lives, Delta State

EACGOVDELTA Oghenesivbe Urges Deltans To Report Covid-19 Symptoms Early Enough To Save Lives.

Says Death of 2nd Patient Unfortunate, Painful And Sad.

Residents in Delta State have again been urged to promptly report Corona virus symptoms to any of the isolation and intensive care facilities located at the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Asaba, Government Baptist Hospital, Eku, Government Central Hospital, Warri and at other designated major government hospitals across the three senatorial districts, so as to increase chances of survival and recovery.

The appeal was made by the Executive Assistant on Communications to the Governor of Delta State, Dr Fred Oghenesivbe at a public affairs television live programme aired by Delta Broadcasting Service, DBS Asaba, on Friday 10th April, 2020.

Oghenesivbe, emphasized the need for citizens to make disclosures to appropriate authorities in all matters of public interest, adding that Corona virus pandemic is a health hazard that requires compulsory early disclosure of symptoms for prompt medical attention by health professionals at designated Isolation and Intensive Care facilities in the state.

He said the advise became necessary because of the unfortunate death of the second Covid-19 patient in the state, pointing out that had he or the doctor who examined him at the private hospital reported the case early to any of the isolation centres, health professionals would have been able to salvage the situation, and the sad incident may not have occurred.

The EA Communications asserted that Covid-19 pandemic as declared by the World Health Organisation, WHO, is a deadly virus compelling early disclosure of symptoms which include; frequent coughing, sneezing and difficulty in breathing, adding that negligence on the part of the doctor who treated the second patient at a private hospital not accredited for Covid-19, was largely responsible for the late arrival of the deceased at the Isolation centre.

“The death of the second Covid-19 patient is unfortunate and painful. His Excellency the Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, received the sad news of his demise with acute pains and in his wisdom immediately ordered the shutdown of the Warri based private hospital.

“We pray and hope that there shall be no more deaths associated with the pandemic,” Oghenesivbe said.

On the possible slashing of the 2020 Delta State Budget occasioned by the drastic fall in crude oil prices at the international market, Oghenesivbe asserted that budget review as announced by government is inevitable, pointing out that Covid-19 pandemic is responsible for the foreseeable global economic crisis.

He noted that the crash of crude oil prices recently forced the federal government to drastically adjust its 2020 budget downward, adding that Nigeria being a mono economy and member of OPEC, may have started experiencing some level of decreased revenue earnings; and must of a necessity introduce survival strategies so as to keep her head above waters until prices of crude oil bounces back.

“Delta Government position on budget review was announced by the Information Commissioner. He said budget cut was and still inevitable, which may reduce capital projects spendings and more emphasis placed on salaries, welfare and survival. Proceeds from federal allocation, 13% derivation and internally generated revenue, IGR, will also be affected negatively for obvious reasons.

“We must all be prepared to adjust because of the impending global economic crisis. It is a fall out from Covid-19 pandemic. Ostentatious life style and unwarranted expenses are to be jettisoned by countrymen and women as we navigate into yet another socioeconomic turbulence.

“In Delta, our flight captain, Gov Okowa and his crew are proficient, there is no cause for alarm.

“Deltans shall partner with government as they did in 2015, 2016 and 2017; when the nation was bedevilled by severe economic crisis.

“We shall overcome,” Oghenesivbe assured.
