Thugs blow up the church that Wike’s father visits.
Unknown thugs attack the church where Elder Wike, the father of Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, is present. They ignited dynamite, which damaged the church on Saturday night.
This is the second time the church, Christain Universal Church International at #25, Azikiwe Street Mile 3 – Diobu, Port Harcourt, has been attacked in less than a month.
The church was first attacked during the heat of the violent EndSARS protest in Rivers State by a group of thugs who threw stones at the church building.
This time, two suspects were arrested who allegedly ignited the dynamite at the church service centre, which Governor Wike’s father attended.
The suspects allegedly broke into the church where they ignited the first dynamite, which attracted the attention of some young people in the area.
The youths pounced on them before they could disperse the second one.
A local man, Collins Johnbull, who is also the deputy chief of security for Azikwe Street, told reporters that he saw five men going into the church at around 9 pm on Saturday, but he did not know their mission until they heard the sound of the dynamite, which forced the residents inside the church to run for safety.
Johnbull said: “We quickly mobilised other people in the area and went after the thugs. We managed to catch two of them while the other gang members escaped. Those arrested were handed over to the police.
Journalists report that the dynamite that exploded did little damage to the church and left some broken glass and cracks in one part of the church.
Rivers State Police Command has not yet responded to the incident, but officers and men from the Eagle Cracks Unit, MOPOL 19 and plainclothes police have been sent to the scene.
