The Commissioner of youth development in Delta State, Hon Michael Egwunyenga who was declared a winner of wisdom class excellence award during DRUG FREE DELSU DAY 2022 has received his award. The occasion marked a suicide and drug abuse sensitisation campaign at Delta State University, Abraka. The Converner, Wisdom Class Movement, Dr Uche Esegbue while presenting the award to the Commissioner extolled his virtues and youth developmental strides in the state. He said that the award is aimed at motivating excellence amongst youths while presenting the commissioner as a role model to the youths and to foster partnership with the ministry to curb suicide and drug abuse among the youths.
Responding on behalf of the commissioner, the permanent secretary, Ngozi Mogbolu thanked the converner for the award and his effort and promised that the ministry will do everything within its power to assist the organisation with their noble goals.
The Converner disclosed that drug abuse and suicide has become highly prevalent among youths in the tertiary institutions and that more effort is required to curb the menace stating that the major precursor to depression among students is failure to pay school fees before the deadline and that drug abuse is filling the high rate of social vices among the youths.
